Semi-Private Training: Merging Personal Training and Training via an App

Do you have what it takes to be left to your own devices?

Both figuratively, and literally? Like, using your own device to kind of train yourself? Do you consider yourself autonomous in the gym?

If so, GREAT! Semi-Private training may be for you, except you will definitely NOT be left alone to your own devices, per se.

So what is Semi-Private Training at SOMA VT?

First off, it is a combination of personal training and virtual training, creating value by pulling the best bits of each into a unique experience. It is performed in a group setting, with folks of similar ability each working off individualized programming.

One of our coaches is always watching, coaching, and answering any and all questions the group or the individuals may have. Similar to personal training in that every day you come into the gym, your customized exercise plan is ready.

Whether you need more hands-on coaching cues and assistance, or have small questions regarding weight or form, Semi-Private Training can be a viable route to staying motivated and accountable while joining the fun, energetic atmosphere of small group training that people love.

Why Semi-Private Training over working out on my own or with a personal trainer?

If you enjoy a more private environment and feel the spotlight effect while working out in public, then Semi-Private Training might not be the best option for you. Some people perform better in a group setting, others perform better on their own or working 1-on-1 with a coach. And there is nothing wrong with any of that. Whatever makes you feel comfortable, helps hold you accountable, and helps you reach your goals.

Who is Semi-Private Training for?

Semi-Private Training attracts people that have a history of training, but don’t want to or don't have the time to think and plan their own exercise programs. SOMA VT’s Semi-Private Training is tailored to people who want and enjoy the social aspect of group fitness, but also want and need a coach buzzing around, staring you down when you take too much time to rest between sets. To train in our Semi-Private Training sessions, all you need is the following:

  • Some experience with being in a gym setting and general understanding of how the body moves

  • Pseudo self-motivation: you will have to hold yourself accountable and attend the days and times you sign up for

  • A smart phone or device with our training app downloaded

Semi-Private Training FAQs

Q: How do I know what is best for me? Personal Training, Semi-Private Training, or Virtual Training?

A: Reach out to the SOMA VT team.  Our professional coaches are happy to go through a movement screening, ask you a few questions, and gauge what would work best for you.

Q: How many people are in an average Semi-Private Training session?

A: We cap the classes at 6, and on average we have between 4-6 regularly.

Q: What if I have an injury and am working on getting back to normal?

A:  If it is an injury, and you have gone through all the appropriate rehab, no problem! If it still routinely bothers you and brings about pain, we may refer to Jes at Movement Matters, our in-house PT, or recommend one-on-one training.

Q: When are Semi-Private Training sessions held?

A:  Monday - Friday at varying times.  We have a few early morning options, afternoon, and are planning to open up evening availability this Fall!
